"BEYOND OUR CONSENT"

"In our description of nature the purpose is not to disclose the real essence of the phenomena but only to track down, so far as is possible, relations between the manifold aspects of our experience."

HOW LIFE'S MYSTERIES ARE REVEALED TO US!

by

Robert Harris Brevig

Before man began to think intellectually he became captivated by religion, perhaps because it appealed to his heart, his feeling nature.   Possibly, this was because it made him feel secure and gave him hope in a seemingly hostile and frightening world.

Later, as he continued to evolve and began to develop his mind faculties, his wits, he became enthralled with philosophy, no doubt, because it appealed to his mental nature.  It very likely provided him with a measure of understanding and tolerance of his environment and his fellow beings.

Later still, as his mental capacities and his curiosity grew, he began to develop science as a means to subdue and gain control over his environment, his fellow creatures, and his own life.

We are witness here to an "evolutionary" process that takes place within the "created" world.  If this is true, then it would seem that science may be one of the means by which we will come to know our Maker, that is unless we use it to annihilate our world and ourselves first.

Religion is the realm of caring  and belief, while philosophy is the sphere of speculation and understanding.  Science is the domain of theory and discovery, which leads to knowing what is, and what isn't.  Curiosity, of course, is the driving force behind discovery and this is what motivates us to progress and improve our status within the "created" universe.  We are self-determining in this respect.  We are the content and life is the context.

The history of religion, philosophy and science is the account of mankind's endeavor to discover the "Law" embodied in the orderly progression of phenomena in the universe of which he is a part.  Each discipline has provided the means by which he develops and improves the three aspects of his being; the heart, the mind and the will natures.   When these three aspects are sufficiently developed so they manifest in a balanced way, and are able to be guided by his own self-discipline without any need for discipline to be imposed by external means, he is then ready to move on to more expanded levels of being and higher spheres of existence.

We may wish, hypothetically, to envisage the world we see before us as a laboratory, or a classroom in which we can choose to engage this "process" consciously and deliberately so as to prepare ourselves for a more intentional and fuller existence.  We are developing a mind-set from which we may begin to determine our own destiny by learning to live successfully within the laws that govern the existence of this domain.  At the same time, we are seeking to discover and understand the laws which govern the realms that lie just beyond our present comprehension.  This has always been what each of these disciplines - Religion, Philosophy and Science - within this magnificent growth process have challenged us to do... to seek to know and understand that which is unknown and lies beyond our ken.  This is what man does.  This is what he was meant do.

We presently exist in a universe of polarities, a "dualistic singularity", if you will.  In this universe of ours we are governed by the laws of "cause and effect" - by cyclic reciprocity; centripetal and centrifugal forces; increase and decrease; growth and decay; light and dark; night and day; good and evil; male and female; life and death - and so on.  One cannot exist without the other, yet it all exists within the wholeness of life.  There is no escaping the reality of "dualistic singularism" in this dimension of being.

However, this does not necessarily mean there is no escape at all.

Consider:  When examining man's endeavors in such a universe, if we allow ourselves to witness the "big-picture" behind his efforts we find, in effect, that everything he does ultimately reflects his desire for escape from this realm of dualism, whether he is aware of it, or not.  What is ambition?  What is desire?  What is aspiration, if they are not forces that drive one to move on, to accumulate, to excel, to improve his lot within his known and familiar sphere of existence?  Whether one chooses to move from poverty to riches, obscurity to fame, shame to glory, slavery to freedom, it is all the same.  The tendency is to rise above the given circumstances.

You may now begin to see there is a larger scope of meaning to all this human activity and endeavor, even if it is misguided at times.  Ambition, desire and aspiration are simply increasingly finer forms of the same driving forces, each governed by the laws and principles which apply to the level at which one's attention is focused, from the grossest to the finest levels.  They are simply differing levels of vibration, as it were, within the same energy pattern but with a compelling tendency to rise to ever higher levels.  The same principles apply on all levels of  human emotion, whether it be lust, affection or compassion; jealousy, envy or admiration; belief, faith or knowing; etc.

How and where does all this begin and what does it ultimately mean?  Let's look at space.  What is "space"? At first glance, we think of space as an empty void.  Yet, we fail to realize that space is actually quite full.  It is pregnant with cosmic rays and energies radiating from an endless multitude of celestial bodies, stars, Suns, planets, comets, etc., all reaching outwardly to other bodies in space.  Each radiates and attracts energies which eventually unite with each other when they have reached an appropriate level of development that complements their mutually creative tendencies.  This is not a random occurrence as some would have you believe.

A  "Sun" is like a parent, a relay station or a portal through which pre-atomic (anti-matter) essence flows outwardly to eventually become conjoined, organized and integrated with other sub-atomic particles and atomic material.  In the "as above, so below" tradition, an atom is the "seed" of a planet, and a planet is the "child" of a "Sun".  All the pre-atomic  essence that is eventually attracted to, entwined in and integrated with the already existing sub-atomic particles ultimately manifests as atomic substance which one day resolves its being, by means of recombination in this case, into a planet.  This great life, which is  animated by these energies (To wit: Volcanic, Climatic, Oceanic, Seismic, etc.) then becomes the womb in which a multitude of other life forms begin to take form and manifest.  These life forms are the "children" of the planet, so to speak.  Man, of course, is the highest expression of this manifestation in this dimension on our planet.  This is how and why the religious idea of planetary and solar deities have become popularized since ancient time.  There is substance to these ideas when viewed from a religious perspective.  It simply doesn't end there, however.

All of Creation is engaged in an endless "process" of essence (anti-matter) being "sent forth" and being "attracted" (magnetic radiation) to other forms of substance (matter) becoming organized and integrated into a life form of one kind or another.  Pre-atomic radiation from a solar source, though it is outward and seemingly randomly directed (chaotic), it is, in fact, dynamic, wave-like and helical, and on a distinct journey toward integration with its complementary polarity.  It could be compared to a radio transmission tuned to the complementarily coded frequency of a receiver in another part of the world.  If the power and coding are correct, the message will be received.

Eventually, this "signal" will be attracted to its complementary polarity and drawn into a helical vortex (DNA coded) configuration which is representative of the of the particular kind of manifestation in process of becoming.  Hence, energy becomes substance or matter, and conversely, substance becomes energy (growth & decay).   In this sense, there is no distinction between the two, since both phenomena are occurring simultaneously.

So, in reality, "space" is neither empty, chaotic, nor is it disorganized.  It is simply in a  pre-organized dynamic condition, full of energy on a journey to becoming.  This presupposes that there is a Presence of "intent" which accompanies these emanations in space.  The source of this "intent" is the Source of All Creation and All That Is.  About this, no more can be said at this time.

About the "process" Itself, however, it might be observed that a Sun in our universe is probably a "black hole", or a vortex in another dimension (if viewed as from the back-side of a mirror image) which captures residual substance from that dimension and recycles it, as it were, into essence which then radiates into our dimension eventually to become the substance of our universe.

Conversely, a "black hole" in our universe is simply a vortex which captures residual substance which has not become organized and integrated adequately in our dimension and, thus, will be recycled and radiated as essence from its complementary Sun in another universal dimension.  Eventually, of course, it will become reorganized and reintegrated into some form of manifest life once again.

This could be viewed as reincarnation on a grand scale, and it is something that is occurring perpetually on every level of the life "process" at all times.  Nothing is ever wasted.  Nothing ever escapes becoming in some dimension of being, or another.

One of the greatest teachers our tiny world has ever known once stated:  "In my Father's house are many mansions."  If the foregoing explanation has any validity, then we can see how true his statement actually was.  However, there are more than many, they are infinite.  A multi-verse feeding itself, and feeding upon itself in the dynamic fashion of life ever-becoming, never ending.  One might even call it a  biosphere, within a biosphere, within a biosphere, and on, and on... ad infinitum.

Religion has always sensed or anticipated this; Philosophy has always attempted to articulate and reveal it; Science is beginning to realize and prove it.  When Science has fulfilled its roll in the scheme of things, all three methodologies will merge with each other into a new, richer and more universal cosmology.  A cosmology that can be understood and accepted by all with the appropriate mental capacities and benevolent attitudes to facilitate their growth within the "evolutionary process".

So far we have identified, within this concept of "dualistic singularism", the extreme juxtaposition, or opposite forces ruling the natural world - cause and effect, cyclic reciprocity, centripetal and centrifugal phenomena and how it occurs throughout all manifestation. Let us now choose a specific quality or type of condition to examine such as "active and passive" phenomena.  For instance, in the human condition evolutionarily speaking, we always find these two conditions prevailing in reciprocal fashion.  Again, for example:  In the situation of a people and their government, or if you prefer, a government and its people, if the people are "actively" exercising their will, the government is inclined to be of a more "passive" nature.  Conversely, when the people do not exercise their will and become more passive, the government becomes more aggressive and actively exercising its will over the people.  We can see this in evidence all around us today.  With temporary exceptions, this is inevitable within the laws of "dualistic singularity" which govern our civilization as well as our individual lives.  One condition, given time, invariably creates its opposite complementary condition, without fail.

In Hegelian fashion (see footnote), the thesis of an idea will undeviatingly inspire its antithesis, yet given more time, they will tend to resolve their conflicts into a synthesis which again becomes a new thesis.  The new thesis, once again creates a new antithesis, synthesis, and the process continues until we are all, either voluntarily or involuntarily, consciously or unconsciously participating in the "physics principles" (Laws) of Creation.

In reality, we should observe from this that there is no actual conflicting distinction between evolution and Creation, except in our own minds.  The former is simply the content within the context.  Darwin , in truth, must have been a very religious man, who unfortunately only managed to define half of the equation for Creation and called it "evolution", and mankind created the conflict of interests in his own mind.

Those who cannot, or choose not to accept these truths... Well, never mind!  As we've seen, they will perhaps be drawn into the "abyss", they will find their appropriate "black hole" (or it will find them) where they will be recycled and reborn at another level or in another form whereby they rejoin the "process" of ever-becoming.

It has been said that "life is for the living" and "life goes on".  How true these statements are when they are understood in the present context.  Life does not waste itself, it does not use itself up, it simply transforms itself into newer and finer forms that are more suitable for it to be in and to grow and improve in.

FOOTNOTE:  Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831), German Philosopher.  In his "Phenomenology of Mind" (1807), Hegel shows the historical development of the human mind from consciousness of mere sensory experience to reflective thought and ultimate awareness of itself as absolute knowledge.  In "Logic" (1812-16), he shows that the mind arrives at the truth by a dialectical process (usually known as the "Hegelian triad") composed of three recurrent stages:  (1) It gains an immediate grasp of its object (thesis),  (2) on further reflection the primary thesis is opposed by contradictory evidence (antithesis),  (3) considering the multiplicity of the evidence, the mind arrives at a resolution (synthesis).  In Hegel's view the dialectical process was also the process of human history (e.g. the development of political and social institutions, science, art, religion, etc.).  Accordingly the study of history became for him the central concern of philosophy.  Other important works are:  "Philosophy of History", "Philosophy of Law", and "Antithesis".   (WEBSTER'S DICTIONARY)
